Time period for a "long" stock hold
Hello,
I am looking at a long / short equity fund, and I was trying to understand how long a hold time period looks like? Is it traditionally one year, two years, more?
I am currently working on a stock pitch, but I think it would not be worthwhile until a 10 year hold period. I cannot tell if that is too long for a "long" position and the recommendation would be not invest?
10 years is way too long. Even the most long-term oriented shops would max out around a 3-year horizon. Many L/S funds have a holding period of weeks (looking at you P72), so 10 years would look ridiculous. Btw, why would you need to hold it 10 years for the idea to work?
Some only hold for days (looking at you Balyasny)

A long hold time period would be between 1.5 to 3 years typically. 10 years would probably be too long I would think.
