A Demanding Request
Hey Guys I have a quick question, I have an idea on what to do but just want alittle more clarity. Thanks in advance.
I have recently interviewed for a job at a F500 company and they have requested my reference and samples of work (Reports/PowerPoint/Etc) that I'm currently doing at my job. I don't have an issue of giving them my reference but I am alittle concerned on giving them reports that I currently work on since it is illegal and against company policy. What should I do, I will be reaching out to the hiring manager to discuss this further but in the mean time what should I do, Is this just another part of the interview process?
Don't do it. Find something from school that you can give them. A line that worked out well for me in the past was "I am not comfortable disclosing confidential materials. After all, if you were to hire me, you certainly would not want me showing others your confidential data." or something like that in a nicer tone. Perhaps follow up with "Should I get an offer, I will ask my manager for permission to show you X, but can not guarantee he will agree." They might just be testing you to determine if you would leak data, especially if you would have access to important data at the new role.
Don't do it. There is little, if any, upside and plenty of downside.
Since they are primarily concerned with your abilities and not the substance of the information, you could change all of the pertinent information/names/numbers and keep the structure of the deck/project and keep yourself out of trouble.
Dont see what the issue is, Control + H all the important references and tweak a few of the numbers. People do this all the time.
Obviously don't show anything super secret, but is there something that you published/distributed to clients that you can show?
I take it you may be foreign based on your English? Maybe you misunderstood what they meant by work samples...
Thanks for the input guys. I am not foreign based either, I just deal with alot of sensitive information and have access to our portfolio to an account level. My understanding from the email from the hiring manager is that he wanted some thing from my current role, hence why I am confused because I was going to propose some of my college work. I don't have "work samples" that I can freely divulge. But thank you guys all again for the input.
