Ability to Directly Help People

I was wondering about the ability to help others in finance as a whole, and IB specially. I am a high school senior, so I have not really been exposed to IB/finance that much, but I looking into it, to see if it would be something that I am interested in pursuing in college. When looking at possible careers, I put a lot of weight into the ability to help others. Is this common in finance? Or is it mainly already very successful people that you guys deal with? Thank you

Essentially, in every job (and every function) you are helping people. In IB, you may not be directly helping the individual lay person, but you are helping them via helping a company provide it's services or products by making sure they have access to capital. Think of all the common products you use every day. They are made by companies. If those companies were unable to access capital, they would not be able to do things like build new factories, invent new solutions via R&D, hire staff to distribute their products, etc. It's access to capital (and rule of law) that keeps our system going, which keeps people employed, which keeps them buying other company's products.

If you're looking for a direct, immediate example of a fiance person helping people, you may want to consider asset management where you are managing an individual's money or providing an investment for them to access (mutual fund). That's a very direct way to help someone.
