Accelerated MBA Programs
I'm looking into accelerated MBA programs at the following schools: Cornell, Columbia and Northwestern.
My main reason is that I don't want to work and go to school (professional programs) at the same time so I rather just take one year off for school versus two.
Thoughts or opinions?
Accelerated US MBA programs exclude internships. Bad idea unless you want to go back to your current company or industry. Most people don’t realize how crucial the internship is to career placement. The Kellogg 1Y MBA is geared for people who just want to move up the ranks in their current industry or even company.
Look into some European programs. They tend to be shorter in duration.
I agree with buyside. 98% of the value of an MBA is the networking opportunities. Through internships, recruiting presos, on campus events, etc. 2% is actually having the degree on your resume.
Notice that equals 100% and I assigned no portion to the actual shit you learn. That's because you could learn everything an MBA provides educationally (and more) in about 4 weekends at Barnes and Noble.
Unless you are just trying to "check a box" (e.g. analyst --> associate, or MC) I would commit to a full-time, 2 year, program.
buyside and merkin hit this one pretty well. sounds like you need to make your mind up between EMBA or Full-Time. Don't try to just check the box with a quickie full-time mba - you're seriously going to shortchange yourself. Not to mention, when recruiting rolls around you might find you've hurt more than helped your situation.
When would the EMBA (Executive MBA) make more sense than the FT MBA?
