Accenture + KPMG ITA

Hello all,

I am currently graduating in economics (where I did a lot of IT stuff on the side) and I now got job offers from Accenture, another IT consulting firm, and the IT advisory branch of KPMG.

I'd be very interesting what your thoughts on KPMG and Accenture are. Especially I am interested in the range of projects those companies get, the career opportunies and how easy it is to go on projects abroad with them.

Thanks a bunch

There is a ton of stuff on Accenture roles here so I'd search for that, maybe not so much on KPMG but I've seen some comments about big 4. I reckon you could get some nice experience with IT Auditing at the big 4, though I'd suspect the starting salary would be maybe a bit less than Accenture. Hopefully you can get some good feedback here.

KPMG is primarily an audit/accounting firm with an additional advisory business Acceture is primarily a consulting / BPO firm. given those two facts, I have heard that you will have a lot more clout at Accenture in terms of career progression and security. For instance, say KPMG has $100 to give out for promotions/bonuses, maybe $70 will go towards audit/accounting and the rest towards advisory. At accenture, might be a 50-50 split between connsulting and BPO. Note the above numbers are not based on any actual studies or research, it is simply hearsay.

as far as roles go, it usually depends on the project and your home office for both firms. i would assume Accenture has a broader range of clients and industries they service because it is a much larger consulting firm.

going abroad is generally not easy for most people unless you can make a business case. this usually involves saying "I have XYZ skills/expertise and there is a shortage in the target country, so i should go"

Full disclosure: i work at accenture in the MC Risk practice.
