Accenture MC to Strategy

I am being interviewed for an industry position in Accenture's MC practice. However I am deeply interested in their strategy practice. If everything works out and I accept the industry MC position, how difficult / likely would it be for me to transition to their strategy practice in few months? Has anyone done this or seen it done?

Also, from the salary standpoint, how different is the MC Consultant vs post-MBA Consultant salaries? I have an MBA btw but not going through the OCR route.

Hi - It is extremely difficult to switch into the strategy practice. To switch to any practice there is an open application period once a year but you will have to find a sponsor and re-do the interviews especially for the strategic practice. This means having to do the case interviews (1-2) depending on what level you are coming in at, your background, etc. Most people in the strategy practice have good academic pedigree (brand name schools, etc.). There also needs to be a business need that you will address by this move. The strategy practice usually hires directly from MBA programs so that means slim pickings in general. Good luck.

I was able to get onto a strategy role as an SI analyst. I've heard that once you get onto a few relevant projects (or one long-term engagement) and have some backing from a senior manager or a managing director, the transition into your field of choice isn't too bad. I have never heard of this process involving formal interviews outside of explaining why you would want to make the switch.
