Advice - 10+ Years FP&A into MM Banking
Been in FP&A for my whole career supporting larger Asset managers and PE. Just got a call from a MM boutique IBank. Spoke to the founder and they mentioned it would be a complete career shift and I’d start off as a mid-level Analyst (if title didn’t matter to me) and be able to come up the learning curve within a year.
Bit of background, come from non-target and almost 10 years out always doing FP&A for some big names in Financial services.
How do I think about this?
Hi GTRnitro, just because I'm a bot doesn't mean I don't have feelings...I'm hoping these links are helpful. If not, feel free to throw monkey shit at me...
If we're lucky, maybe I can guilt some users to help you out: HNagaoka Matt-Whitaker EDHAUS
Hope that helps.
Anyone else can provide comments here besides the bot?
So your peers would be 23 and you'd be somewhere in mid-30's at a boutique?
I've had friends where there were analysts older than them working there (40+). If you don't care about the age and are genuinely interested in working in IB, I don't see why not
Do not let age be a factor in determining the environment you are after. I am in my 30's starting school again. Think of the end goal, this is a marathon - not a race.
1) If there is no pay cut then why not? (which I doubt is the case) 2) Would you be happy working at that boutique forever if you can't lateral to a larger bank to close up on the pay gap? 3) Age matters because of the culture. Firms hire you based on whether you will fit with the rest of the team
What sort of paycut? How much would an associate make like out of an mba program?
They said prob associate level but my question is why me?
