Advice for BCG Final Round?
Hey all,
I have a BCG final round on Friday. I just had an Oliver Wyman final round this past Friday that didn't go well, so this is my last shot at consulting. Any advice? I've heard that BCG's finals are pretty open-ended. How do you come up with a lot of out-of-the-box or second level insights on the fly?
Thanks.
As a rule of thumb, cases can be organized into "layers". 2nd level insights are WORTHLESS if you don't get the high level insights done first.
Overall you need to 1: hit a minimum threshold to be considered a good consultant, THEN 2: "spike" in a specific way (structuring, MM, charts analysis, brainstorming).
For final rounds in particular, partners are less forgiving towards people who waste time trying to come up with pie in the sky examples. They want you to get to the heart of the problem quickly; this means custom structures, and explaining your logic from the start.
And on a personal note: I understand you're stressed, but remember: each case is in isolation! Your performance with a different firm does not affect your chances in this one. Furthermore, I know for a fact MBB sets target school ranges, not quotas. This means they might aim for 10 kids from School X, but they will happily accept 15 if all those kids fit the two requirements listed above.
You got this, good luck!
I really, really appreciate your advice BeautifullyConfused Thank you so much.
Also, what does MM stand for?
Mental Math
Basically you're measured on Hard Skills (MM, Charts and Data, Structuring, Brainstorming) and Soft Skills (enthusiasm, conciseness, clarity, etc)
Combined, these create the "Polish" firms look for
