Advice For Sophomore Summer Internship

I am a rising sophomore at a Target/Semi-Target in the midwest, interested in IB. I have a pretty solid GPA and I am active in a few different clubs at school.

This summer, I was able to find a small intern role at a local F500 company and have been doing remote work for them over the past month. The internship is nothing flashy but is under the Finance/Accounting Division.

As I mentioned, I am interested in hopefully breaking into IB out of college (just based off of personal research in my free time), something that would seemingly start with an internship in the summer of 2022 for me. I understand that recruiting for that will be wrapping up by this time next year, and I was wondering how those who have been able to get IB internships were able to balance the recruiting for their internship after junior year with finding an internship for their sophomore year summer.

I think that a PWM internship after my sophomore year would be neat because it could give me some experience in another area of Finance that interests me. Is the level of networking for such an internship even close to that for the Junior summer IB internships? Do most people who end up with PWM internships do small amounts of networking and then apply to internship programs?

I understand that with the current state of the world on-campus recruiting might look a little/a lot different so I am also keeping that in mind.

FWIW I am a white male so diversity programs are definitely out of the picture for me. Any insight or advice is greatly appreciated, and I apologize if some of the wording in the post is murky or confusing. Thanks!
