Advice needed on interview status

Hi everyone,

I've been reading and following the forum regularly for a very long time as a guest.. But this is really the first time I create an account and start my first post. This is going to be a long one, but I really appreciate any help or suggestion from you guys.

So... I recently had an interview with a MM for a FT 1st year analyst position in their IBD/Restructuring team through an alumnus from my college. I did my 1st round interview on phone with him earlier last week. It was pure technical. I did well and was almost immediately invited back for final round last Friday (1/30) in their office in NYC.

The final round included 5 rounds of interviews and 1 round of Excel test: 2 rounds of technical, 2 rounds of fit, 1 round of fixed, Excel test for modeling skill. All interviews were conducted by associates except for one by a VP. I think I did fairly well for all except for the very first interview, which is pure technical. My alumnus did the interview with another person for me again. This time, a fit interview. Since I am kinda in the off-cycle hiring process, I am the only person there for the interview that afternoon.

After the interview, different interviewers are giving me different timelines of hearing back, varying from one week to a couple of weeks.

It has now been almost one week and I have not heard anything back yet. Already sent an email to my alumnus to follow up as well as to reiterate my strong interest and he did not respond.

In the mean time, is there anything else that I can do to improve my chance? I understand that BB usually gets back to ppl fairly quickly after final round. But would that be different for MM? Especially given my case, would it be possible that they need more time to interview other off-cycle candidates before they can come up with a final decision? Or should I say my chance is already very slim since they have not called back yet after one week of my final round?

I understand it is difficult to have def answer on this. But any idea or suggestion would be deeply appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

...and as you say you're on off cycle recruiting. I think you're thinking too much, nothing you can do at this point. You said they said it could be a few weeks. Sending thank you letters is a vague option, but at this point it would seem like an after thought and would make you seem desperate. Just leave it be, pushing isn't going to help, especially in this market.

Thanks dude... I also feel I am probably just overly nervous... With hiring freeze in most of the investment banks at entry level, this might be my only chance of getting into the industry in the next few years...

Call next week to check on the status. It could be that they want you but aren't budgeted for it yet/aren't sure how many spots there are. Just call next Thurs/Fri?
