Advice on an unique cover letter
Hi. I'm from a non-finance major and trying to get a summer internship. I networked my way to a MD and he asked me to "send Him an unique cover letter". I'm thinking of making a bet on something crazy rather than some cliched letter. Like trying to pitch him an investment idea in one page. Do you guys think that is crazy enough?
he means write a cover letter about why that firm specifically. do some research or talk to people. please don't do the investment idea thing.
I've talked to a few people at the office. They all want someone with a personality. I think having the balls to do what no one else does is my trait. Do you think an investment idea in a cover letter will backfire?
If you look at it from their perspective, you will be trying to present them something that is their expertise. Almost like saying that someone with absolutely no or little experience in the field can go in and do their job like it's nothing. I don't think your in the position (experience or access to research) to present an MD with something like that.
it could work if it is well done, if it is not it could backfire badly. so if you do it, make sure its done well. That advice may seem obvious but just nderstand that just having "balls" isnt good unless the product is also good.
Thanks Bondarb. Coincidentally, I'm reading your "fling" with Mis Ind a few years ago :D Can you tell me the craziest cover letter you have seen in your recruiting life? (preferably those that worked of course).
I dont think I've ever really seen a very unique cover letter that stands out. But usually when we are looking to hire somebody and I am asked to interview them I just get the resume.
