Advice on suitability of next job for career path
Hello all. I currently work as a Registered CA for 3 brokers at a mid tier bank. I have 2 years of experience, have an economics degree from a SUNY (State University of New York) school and am currently a level 2 CFA candidate. I am trying to break out of wealth management and into the corporate/institutional side of finance. My ideal role would be one where I could gain experience in modeling and financial analysis while applying what I have learned while studying for the CFA.
I anticipate an offer in the next few days from a big bank in their Fund Services Group - basically back office operations for hedge funds. I have found it difficult to land any interviews for jobs which ask for modeling/analysis experience, since my resume flat out states I have none.
My thinking is the Fund Services Group position would give me exposure to the hedge fund space, and that coupled with a big bank on my resume (and potentially a completed CFA program at some point in the next 1.5 years - who knows how long) would make me a solid candidate for a serious role down the road.
Does it make sense to take this role or should I continue to pursue a role where I can start accumulating experience in analysis and modeling?
Any help/guidance would be appreciated. Thanks!
