Advice Please - Junior/Senior mechanical engineering student
I'm a junior/ senior mechanical engineering student in southern california. I've been more than interest in finance for quite some time but was a little bit too far into the engineering curriculum to change majors. I would really like to focus my time on learning how invest successfully and trading. What would be the best way to go about accomplishing this? books? i would like to learn the fundamentals on how to choose a successful stock. Also if you can explain how all of you learned how to trade would be terrific. Thanks Guys
Trading and investing are somewhat different animals. Finance in general is a huge area. Are you interested in entering and exiting the markets quickly via signals, economic data, etc? Or are you thinking about digging through corporate statements and making a decision based on comps/discounted cash flows (company fundamentals)? For starters, I suggest that you take a look at either the Vault or WetFeet guides on finance/IB/trading/etc. to find out the different divisions in finance. Then, you can hone in on what you're really interested in.
