Afghanistan tastes capitalism

A little freedom and capitalism feels good, doesn't it my Afghan friends. Amazing that even Afghanistan can experience entrepreneurs, business, investment, etc. Just wait until the mining starts and that place will be booming.

Thank you Uncle Sam.

"His shop is one of many signs that some in the Afghan capital are now very wealthy -- although Kabul's mirrored glass malls and lavish mansions often sit on dusty roads dotted with children begging for money, highlighting wider, ingrained poverty."

Yup, that's capitalism alright.

From your source, which you conveniently did not quote:

"Afghanistan's economy is recovering from decades of conflict. The economy has improved significantly since the fall of the Taliban regime in 2001 largely because of the infusion of international assistance, the recovery of the agricultural sector, and service sector growth."

PPP is not an appropriate measure of development and growth in Afghanistan. You know this dude.

Thanks Uncle Sam? Dude you need a reality check. Uncle Sam raped the shit out of that country for a decade. And don't give me this bullshit about liberating them from the Taliban. Please do a little research on who backed the Taliban's bid for power in the 90s (Hint: the US was very keen on building an oil and gas pipeline there).

Yawn.

The US backed the Taliban against the Soviets. You know, the ones who had bomblets that looked like toys to killed children. Unfortunately they went off the reservation.

We didn't liberate Afghanistan? I didn't realize it was a utopia before we got there. The kind Taliban huh?

Get real. The country is still a mess, but by many measures it is much better than before. Everyone expects zero to USA in 10 years. Things take time.

It is significantly worse than before the US interfering and attacking, but slightly better than after the aftermath of all the US bombing. Go back to the 70s and compare from then. There is a long way to go before Afghanistan will come even close to that. Measuring progress from 2005 is completely idiotic.

Also, the soviet invasion you're referring to took place in the 80s. The backing I'm talking about took place in 1996.
