Am I Fucked?
Ahoy, looking for some advice on exit strategies from a reputable custodian. I’ve applied to hundreds of jobs, albeit many might that are a stretch, and have had only a handful of few interviews. 7 years of experience at the same firm coming from a non-target, 4 promotions, and currently studyin for CFA (level 3). I obviously don’t want to stay in custody banking but i’m finding it difficult to pivot. Any thoughts on what I could do to align more closely with CFA studies and not take a massive pay cut for entry level role somewhere? I feel like i’m having a mid-life crisis at the beginning of my career.
CFA isn’t as much of a game changer as a T10 MBA

You need a career reset, try for an top MBA.
Custodian banking has limited exit ops as the work experience is viewed as not transferable and very niche. My assumption is people lump it in with back office work. Even with a CFA charter, you're going to have a very hard time making the career move you want. With the CFA charter, a top MBA and your work experience; you would be in a great position to move to IB or ER.
If you don't want to do the full time MBA route, you can try for a ratings agency or smaller sell side firm but even then it's going to be pretty difficult.
Best of luck!
