Am I the only one that hates round based admissions?

I just submitted the last app for round one and started wondering why do schools put these artificial deadlines in place? It makes much more sense to have rolling admissions and just line up applications by the postmark date. I understand there can be some "hard" deadlines for scholarships or visas, but what point does round based admissions serve other than driving students mad?

A big part of it is it allows admissions committees and student fellows to plan better. If they know when all applications will be in they can better schedule review time, interviews, etc. Rolling admissions would be a bit of chaos. As someone who waited on CBS's rolling regular decisions last year I can say I much prefer a round-based system.

It also gives applicants structure and forces them to hit "submit" rather than do a 51st iteration of their essays. While I personally would have loved the opportunity to submit an extra app or two after the R1 deadline passed, I do prefer the structure of round-based admissions.
