AM to PE?

I'm a rising sophomore at semi-target with a boutique AM internship. So far I found the work interesting and I'm considering pursuing further internships and eventually a FT position. However, my end goal is to work in PE, so I was wondering what kind of exit opportunities working in the product side of a BB AM might lend. Are the skills you learn transferable to other jobs or is it more niche like S&T? Would a jump after two years in AM to PE be possible? What group in AM is the best for PE, I know for example JPM has a group that focuses on private equity, does that give a better shot? Any insight is greatly appreciated.

P.S. I'm not diversity, and have a 3.96 GPA if that matters lol
