America's super rich prepare for a possible doomsday
Monkeys, was going through this article which seems to be straight out of a sci-fi movie on the new yorker which spoke about the preparations the rich guys were making in case of an apocalypse. It seems like the movie '2012' all again.
wealthy survivalists swap tips on gas masks, bunkers, and locations safe from the effects of climate change. One member, the head of an investment firm, told me, “I keep a helicopter gassed up all the time, and I have an underground bunker with an air-filtration system.”In private Facebook groups,
Can these guys be serious?
spring fed land in north florida for the win
Nothing better than to sell something very expensive using fear to people with a lot of money.
+1 to the entrepreneur who thought of this.
If I had absurd amounts of money, I would too. Why not?
I kind of agree with Huffman that we are on thin cultural ice. And I agree with you, if I had the money, I would too for the same reason I have insurance, peace of mind.
Yes. Dead serious. You'd be surprised by the mass of people from all walks of life, who have started similar apocalypse prep. The Guns, Grubs and Gold club is real.
I should get in this doomsday business. Can I interest you in a moutain condo 300 feet from the surface?
I'm ok, thanks. If you do find some lucky guy or gal, please do tell them about that ocean front beach property I'm selling in Arizona.
I wonder if they are worried about the hangover from the Quantitative Easing binge.
I grew up with a dad who did this kind of stuff as a hobby, for fun.
Huge garden out back, lots of food storage lots of guns... it was just his thing. I wouldn't categorize preppers as "crazies" but rather just really intense hobbyists
I think it is also a piece of mind thing for a lot of people who know if shit hits the fan they are equipped to deal with it
( + peace of mind gained from being prepared for doomsday - time and effort necessary to get prepared)
Here's hoping this parasite class is first on the list when the Purge happens.
I don't think this is surprising at all. Dooms day prepers aren't just limited to hillbillies in the sticks. Those are just the ones on TV because the rich are already rich and don't need the money or want the exposure from a TV show. The rich can also afford to act on their dooms day beliefs and can do so in a much larger fashion (e.g. buying a bunker vs. some hillbilly in the sticks buying 50 cans of food).
