I noticed most Analysts and Associates exit IB and go to buy-side, Private Equity. However, few go to Hedge Fund or Investment Management. I am curious to know why majority of you guys want to go buy-side? Is it for better pay, work-life balance, culture? Why not go into Engineering, Consulting, Teaching?

My personal opinion is that many are drawn to the money and the fame of going into it considering that's the prized next step. Some are also thinking ahead and know that PE looks good for you to then go onto your next step: HSW B School.
I'm actually leaving to go prepare for med school at the end of my two years. I don't find the job particularly impactful / meaningful and realized that I'm not that into money that I want to live my life working for someone and always being the sales person, trying to please the client 24/7.
