Analyst at a BB going back to study a MSc at a Target

Hi.

I am currently a 2nd year Analyst at a BB on a Technology graduate scheme. I have decided that I am going back to do an MSc in a finance related subject at a target university in the UK.

The reason for going back to studying is:
(a) Found that technology really wasn't the right career path for me
(b) After rotating into a Risk related role (not true Risk mgmt), I am really interested in pursuing a career within this area of the bank

You may ask why don't I just stay at the firm to try and move internally/laterally into a Risk mgmt role - this was a tough decision for me and the opportunity came up to study at a top institution, so I took it.

My question is:

  • I would really want to come back to the firm on one of their schemes, would I have a better chance of getting back in by doing a Summer Internship or by applying for their Graduate scheme (depending on if they open as they usually fill the graduate class with SA)? Not strictly just for my current firm but for applying to other firms too.
  • Do firms mind final year/MSc students applying for SA positions? Do they still take them on?

Just a note, I am networking and talking to as many people as I before I leave, but would really appreciate any insight!

Thanks
