Analyst for principle or Appraiser
Hi-
I am in a predicament with a couple job options. I am interviewing for a real estate analyst role with a principle which focuses as a holdings firm but does participate in new acquisitions and development opportunities. At the same time, I have received a offer for an appraisal role at a top CRE firm. Both positions will give me exposure to DCF analysis and Argus.
I understand that the analyst role will likely create better opportunities to learn but I am still interviewing and there is no offer on the table yet. What is everyone thoughts on the two options and how would you proceed in this situation?
Thank you for the input.
What do you mean focuses on holdings firms but does not acquire? What do they do then?
Is this an Asset Management role? I think it depends what you want to do. Also will you be in a major market as an appraiser, what's your team setup and how much autonomy will you have. There's a number of posts on what life as a Jr Appraiser is like within this forum
I'm assuming that is an Asset Management position. Depending on the AUM, that could be a great opportunity, especially in a major market. However, starting off in Valuations at a top firm can be fantastic experience, as you will see every type of deal. Also, the earlier you get ARGUS experience the better.
Can't help, but I turned down a Valuation Trainee at a large brokerage about a year ago and I am seriously regretting it. The pay was terrible, but the learning would have been worth it. Thinking about reaching back out the guy I talked to see what's up.
