Analyst half life and deferred compensation

Background: I work in ER on the sell side, covering a struggling industry. Lately, it seems like clients have suffered quite a bit, and today I learned about two more clients getting let go. In at least one case, the performance record was strong.

Question - what is the average lifespan of a newly minted buyside hedge fund analyst?

How are bonuses typically structured (how much is deferred and what happens if you are terminated?)

Does getting pink slipped in January 2018 imply getting coal for a 2017 bonus?
