Any IS / Brokerage Analysts or Associates Willing to Share Their Stories?
Hi WSO, wanted to see if anyone that has worked in IS / brokerage could share their stories on what they did after their brokerage gig. I'm personally a 3rd year IS analyst in a T1 market looking into potential opportunities on the buy side and was wondering what others have done in their career paths.
I've seen plenty of posts from students/analysts asking what their exit opps are for IS but I'm curious to hear about your personal career story and why you left the brokerage gig whether you were an analyst/associate/vp/md. As an analyst, I feel that I've reached my limit and have not learned anything besides how to put OMs and packages together more efficiently. Underwriting for multifamily is not too difficult either since most clients don't ask for 5-10 year cash flows or very technical analyses. Curious to hear where other IS / brokerage folks have ended up!
Following this, in a similar situation. Are you looking to stay in multifamily ?
I am hoping to stay within the multifamily realm. Have had many recruiters reach out in the past year on moving over to their acquisitions teams but most of these have been retail/office firms. How about you?
I am actually in retail/office and thinking of moving over to multifamily acquisitions.
D/E Brokerage -> REPE Acquisitions -> Hotel Development -> Soup Kitchen -> Cofounder of Hotel Shop (GP Fund)
That's a very unique path you took! Can I ask why you decided to jump into development after your acquisitions gig? And which role/position did you personally enjoy the most since you've worked in brokerage, acquisitions, development and a soup kitchen too?
