Any success with cold emailing to secure internships/work experience? (Europe)

I am a first year undergrad at a target university in the UK and understand that cold emailing is very common in the US. I was wondering if cold emailing people at BB's/Boutiques regarding internship/work experience opportunities in London or Europe in general is just as acceptable? If so, has anybody had any success in any capacity with this method?

It would be great if people from both the sending and receiving end of cold emails could shed some light on what they have experienced. Thank you in advance. :)

You're right, it is definitely common in the U.S. That is essentially how I got my upcoming S&T FT role at a BB after my graduation in May. As for London or Europe, I have networked with a few traders in the UK before through cold emailing and sending LinkedIn requests. Those emails ultimately led to phone calls,

Honestly, even if it's not common in the U.K. or Europe, it makes you stand out so much more if you were to go about cold emailing and etc. Of course, do not get discouraged if you don't get any response. Most would agree with me, that you only do need a few connections whom is willing to help you out.

With that said, good luck to you. Just remember to attend BB's networking events and your school's career fairs, and you'll be fine.

Good luck!
