Women in Private Equity?
Hey everyone so I am wondering if there are any women in PE or who went through the recent recruiting cycle who browse this site
Can you share your experience given that firms are trying to hire more women? What was the process like for you, your interviews, etc ?
Also, are there any firms that are more focused on developing and retaining women talent? I'm specifically interested in Upper MM and MF.
If anyone else has insight I'd love to hear it as well.
Hey jspencer1, I swear if I had a silver banana for every lonely thread I posted too I'd be richer than @compbanker ...

You're welcome.
I’m a woman and will be going to PE this summer. PM me.
Thanks! PM'd.
I work for a MM Fund. We specifically hired several female associates. I think this is in part because it will help us raise more money from pension funds (our primary LPs). Pension funds have specific allocations for minority / female funds. So perhaps do some research on the funds' LPs.
Can I PM you?
Sure.

Females in PE (Originally Posted: 04/18/2010)
I've been looking at some of the profiles of people at various PE firms, and it seems there aren't that many women, even fewer than in banking. Is there a reason for this? Are women just not interested in PE?
Thanks I’ll look into it
the grueling hours just aren't that sustainable and I think guys are more willing to take the dive than women. the lifestyle takes an immense toll on your looks and your mental stability, and that affects women more than men in some cases (or most).
I agree that guys are more willing to take the dive, but I don't think think "looks and mental stability" are that big of a factor relative to the toll it has on your family life, which tends to be a bigger issue for women.
It's acceptable for men to be 60, have a hot wife who's 25, and not be a really involved parent (like my friend's dad) but not so much for women. Plus, it's hard to get into PE right out of school, and by the time you pay your dues, a lot of women are facing the "oh ****, I might not get to have kids" point of their lives.
I agree with both big unit and Suit Up. Basically, it's a lifestyle choice. If women spend all the time to work their way to the top of PE, they probably wouldn't have the time to meet a husband, start a family and raise their kids, which is something most women desire.
