Anyone ever try Cryotherapy?

I've noticed that after taking a shower and getting to work my face is puffy. Holding a refrigerated coke can on my face helps and I feel great afterwards. Kinda reminded me of American Psycho when Bateman is describing his morning routine which includes an ice mask.

This sparked an interest in cryotherapy for me.
One company I saw advertised that the benefits include weight loss, reducing inflammation, pain relief, anti-aging, and recovering muscles/bones quicker.

Has anyone tried it? How much does it cost in your region? Worth it? How frequently do you go?
Any advice/tips for noobs?

I've done it a few times.

I think it does well for general pain relief and rejuvenation like an ice bath would. I definitely felt better and less achy. If you have a really tough workout it helps the recovery. However, I primarily tried it for injury relief when I hurt my hip, I didn't feel like it really helped with the specific injury (like some people will claim).

The cost is pretty pricey. I got a little bit of a deal when a place first opened and I think I got an introductory package at ~$40 each, but I think normal pricing is more like $75-100 per session.

I think its helpful for people who are pushing their fitness if you have the money and time, but I don't buy all of the marketing hype out there.

I felt invigorated right after and the rest of the day. Then I felt better (less achy) the next day, but no long-term impact that I noticed.

Like I said I used it for general recovery and trying to help an injury. I felt it worked for speeding up recovery, but didn't help healing the injury. I didn't use it for any of the other claims that seem more far fethced (weight loss, diabetes, etc...)

You want to play in the NBA and you’re fretting over the brand of your shoes before getting in shape and learning to play basketball. You’re puffy because you’re experiencing systemic inflammation. All those grains, sugar, alcohol, chemicals, lack of sleep, lack of exercise, and stress are impacting your body and mind. Cryotherapy is used because it is anti-inflammatory. It’s used by people who are doing all of the easy lifestyle things right already. Paying $200 to stand in a cold box for 3 minutes won’t change your puffy face. Putting down that bagel and doing some pullups might.

On the topic of cold therapy, I am a big fan. Different benefits lie along the full spectrum, from cryotherapy on one end to sleeping in a cool room and taking walks in “uncomfortable” temperatures. It will benefit your immune system (I take tons of sick days, but never because I’m sick), increase brown fat which increases metabolic function, and reduces inflammation. I like to end my first shower of every day with a cold shower (as cold as it will go, 3-5 minutes, focusing water on upper back/neck/head. I also like to go for a little run in the winter (all year actually) in just shorts (won’t go below 25 degrees, maybe 30 minutes). I also keep my bedroom cool at night and don’t shy away from being “uncomfortable” if taking a walk or whatever.

It’s not something you notice a difference from immediately, but like I said, I haven’t been sick in years. It’s just another thing to do if you want to be healthy. Actually, the cold shower, you will feel immediately. Cold aside, you will be basically high for like 5 minutes afterwards and feel increased energy for hours after. Running outside if it’s cold enough will get you feeling pretty good too.

+1. After a workout or in the morning, I am a big fan of taking a hot/cold shower. Essentially 30 seconds as hot as you can stand, followed by 30 seconds as cold as you can stand, for about 5 minutes. It is supposed to help reduce inflammation. Great for waking you up and your body definitely feels the difference afterwards.

What are you trying to accomplish with Cryo? I've tried plenty of other things as well, with mixed results. If I know what you're trying to do I can recommend if anything has worked for me.

Like another poster said, cold showers can be great, but again, depends on what you're trying to do.

Not trying to accomplish anything specific. Just curious as to the benefits.

Echoing above posts, I do the same thing with hot/cold showers and I feel great afterwards. I was thinking maybe cryo could offer the same benefits but better?

Also, I'm not fat or out of shape. However, my diet is fairly high in sodium and I do not do cardio type exercises. I think the puffy eyes is due to my hot showers in the mornings?

What other things are you talking about - I'm thinking of cryo, but might just be able to sit in the pool if the weather here ever gets cold. I'm nursing a few injuries.

I wish I still lived near that 63/Lex Equinox with the hot/cold tubs next to each other plus the sauna right there in the bottom floor. Sick setup.

Maybe you're just fat. Icing is a temporary solution...

on a serious note though, Yeah I know a few semi-pro/pro ball players who use it extensively; it's very expensive, and unless you're sponsored by a company, you'd be better off just sticking to the basics (eating healthy, exercising!!, and sleeping enough). A lot of this stuff caters to the wealthy elite who can afford it, but can't even bench 225; it's useful for those who have an actual accrual of inflammation via training (powerlifters, pro athletes...etc), not much for a 146 lb IB analyst who just needs to hit the gym, and stop eating that MSG shit takeout.

I think- therefore I fuck

Cryo is whatever, but stem cells is where it's really at. I'd have them injected over my entire body if I had the dough.

How much is this treatment?

Guys, cryo and infrared saunas are just things people that take of themselves do.

I mean, they almost hold your hand, they're in the room while you're doing it. This is an after workout & shower thing to do.

Don't be a pussy.

Yeah, people that take care of themselves are pussies.
