Anyone familiar with FoF's Fundraising Fund IR role?

Hi guys,

I worked at BB for three years and just got promoted as an associate. My goal this year is to get investment analyst role within the fast-growing alternative investment sector (PE, real estate, infra, etc.).

I am currently interviewing with FoF's Fund IR role, where my main responsibilities would be fundraising, maintaining relationships with LPs. The shop i am interviewing with is solid & one of the top players within the industry (approx $100bn AUM).

Negative points... in the order of significance to me..
1. Already passed a few interview rounds but still not sure if I really want Fund IR role as I feel this will pigeonhole my entire future career path within Fund IR... Also, I do not see myself as the best sales guy.

  1. Get this Fund IR role and then making switch to investment role (FoF investment, Co-investment, direct PE, etc.) would be impossible.

  2. My associate base salary at current BB is around 130k. If I choose this new shop, base will be around 110k. (I guess this industry generally pay less than BB front?)

  3. While FoF, Fund IR's work-life balance should be better than BB IBD/ER, in general, this shop's working hour is similar to my current hours (off around 10pm~12am)

I guess i am mostly concerned about limited future career options.... and the fact that I have to lower, while slightly, my base salary despite this role essentially being a sales...

But if i reject this, there is no guarantee that I will land offer from other investment analyst role (within AI) within this year. Actually, I am in Equity Research and aware that my chance of making move into AI will be significantly lower compared to IBD guys.... Further, staying within research until end 2020 is least thing I want to do.

Anyone any thoughts? How attractive is Fund IR role? Should I consider this more seriously, or reject & wait for other decent investment role? Sorry all, I should be the one to clearly know what i want... but so confused and feel i am going through 2nd puberty
