Anyone have experience copping a Rolex Stainless steel from boutique?
Has anyone managed to cop a stainless steel rolex sub from a boutique? I'm reading around online and it seems like it's a lot harder than I realized to get one.
Have any of you managed to cop one as a first time buyer and what was the process?
Depends what model do you want? Some are harder vs others
Thinking stainless steel black submariner with date
Basically impossible. There's a reason those go for $12k+ secondhand. Anytime one comes in it'll go to the folks who've already bought $100k worth of watches from the retailer already. You MAY be able to get something like a Datejust or Yachtmaster new from a boutique but a stainless sub is not going to happen.
I have a stainless steel datejust op w/ jubilee band. It was there because it had a wacky (read: "unique") face. After I got it I paid $150 to swap out the face. TC was like 5k (this was in 2011).
you cop drugs and gym shoes. you buy rolexes
You won't be able to walk in and buy one. Likely the AD will make you buy a bunch of ugly two tone date justs to increase your chances of getting a sub. Ok Ciao.
Rolex is a complete joke now. Insanely overpriced for what they are on the secondary market and there's no way you're getting an SS model without a relationship, especially a sub. Even some of the garbage models like the colored DJs are harder than they should be to get.
My advice is to pick up a used SS sports watch made by Omega or spend ~$12k - $15k and get a used Lange which will destroy anything Rolex.
OP, listen to m_1. He knows his watches.
I literally made sure to buy my fiancés engagement ring at an AD with the specific intent of trying to leverage up in that relationship for a SS Rolex. They still told me to go F myself.
LOOOOL.
1. You're a savage lmao
2. Jk your AD was even more savage
Aight i've made up my mind. I'm gonna just go to a reseller and buy it marked up. Fk this bull shit
I cried a little.
But yeah - if you really want one, you can grab a recent model year at a reputable reseller Like Bob's Watches or Crown & Caliber IMO. Or go Omega that's what I did.
It's possible but you have the be persistent and get a little lucky. I cold called boutiques for a few months until I randomly called one that happened to have a sub I was looking for. He made sure I was local and wasn't planning on flipping it before admitting he had one. Most boutiques will laugh when you call and ask about sports models.
I always wanted a Submariner when I got a big promotion/bonus, which happened this month. However, the brand has really pissed me off. I feel no need to beg and plead to give someone $10k so I'll likely go with something else. I have a close family friend that owns a Rolex AD and I can pretty much get any Rolex I want, but the brand has pissed me off so much that I likely won't even buy one.
With that being said, anyone have any good recommendations for something different?
