Anyone in an IB team that is falling apart? How are you coping
Lost 10 people in the past year out of an 18 people team. Trying desperately to recruit myself in the last 2-3 months but have no offer yet. Not coping well mentally given the long hours, lockdown and the strain from recruitment process. Losing hope slowly seeing my colleagues leaving me behind and worry about my well-being and workload in the coming weeks. Seriously have no idea how I can cope anymore but I’m losing it mentally
Why is everyone leaving? Is it just the hours?
Seriously? There are a ton of threads discussing the new reality — click through a few.
From what I see, hours are normally not the only thing. Culture is incredibly bad in IB. Bad hours don’t necessarily come with bad culture. A team with bad hours can still be a decent and supportive team. From what I see, bad culture tends to drive people away more than bad hours. The two together will result in OP’s team’s situation.
Same. Im losing it. Ib is hell
Cause everything's falling apart
You can't control me, You can't control me
Everything's falling apart
Now I can't see you
Doesn't matter what I do
I can't see you
Cause everything's falling apart
I got exposed to a deeper form of infection
Shout out "I need acception"
Always lies in your eyes
Settles in your action
Criticize everything that I do
And I will overcome anything that's in store
Nevermore look up to you and adore
Liberty (yeah)
Manipulation is on my mind
Inspect me, try to check me
Expectations well defined
Dissect me, want to wreck me
Violator of my own will
Accept me- reject me
Separate or shoot to kill

Why don't you just quit and focus entirely on recruiting? You'll probably perform better in interviews too with the stress of your current job off your shoulders.
Do you have any money saved up?
Curious if people actually do that? I’m in similar position.. miserable team losing people rapidly .. and I’m trying to recruit on top of my sweaty hours but sadly I can’t just quit cos I have a mortgage ..
Yea thats the other point I was going to make. If you have significant debt the situation gets a lot more tricky - esp. if you need to retain a certain level of salary (if you switch jobs) to pay that mortgage off
That sounds pretty bad. What's the bank type and industry?
I cancelled my lease and moved back in with my mom and dad to wfh out of the guest bedroom. Definitely helps a little because I was living in a 1b1ba literally not leaving for weeks at a time and my only social interaction was with my doorman and the ubereats guy
How did you cancel your lease? I would like to but mine doesnt any any cancellation policy
just get evicted bro
I had two pay a two month rent fee but it started to feel like I was in a jail cell so it was worth it to me
sublet it?
wow that sounds brutal
BB / EB?
Seeing the exact same thing at my bank, so totally feel ya
Seems very common recently across banks? One of the top groups my friend works at lost 7 Asso/VPs in the past month, and it should only get worse in the summer after the analysts leave.
