Anywhere that still has spots?
Been networking for a year.. but struck out in FT recruiting (thought my networking efforts went well, but only got a few interviews from it, most contacts said that interns took up all the spots)..
Some of my contacts I haven't talked to since September. Should I try re-asking them if any spots opened up yet? Or should I wait until Spring to ask again (of course I will be searching for something else in the mean time...)
Or does anyone know of any banks that are still recruiting for IB specifically? Or is it strictly regional boutiques time?
Thanks
Any help?
Pretty much wrapping up, I wouldn't bother re-asking your contacts since everyone is basically done (might be a few holes to fill here and there, but it will most likely be with a candidate that the firm already saw). I'd wait and ask again in the spring like you mentioned, seems like a good way to keep yourself sorta in the picture without being obnoxious and things might change by then. For the most part though, it's time to say your goodbyes...
If you're curious I have a list of banks that I know are done... from my own recruiting / network [PM me?]
Yeah, I realize how screwed I am. I had a lot of contacts though networking but really couldn't get too many interviews.
I'm not really sure what to do, btw did you end up getting an offer in ibd?
hit up smaller shops or big 4. im in same situation but i go to a nontarg :(
I am nontarget, and big 4 is even done recruiting at my school (missed out on 3/4 of the big 4 here because I wasn't paying too much attention to them, and thought I'd have had enough interviews through ib networking.)
they recruit year round and hire anyone that breathes.
Hit up boutique IBs - I sent out ~150 emails a month ago, had about a 20% response rate and just had two interviews as a result. If you have any banker friends, ask them to send you Cap. IQ lists of areas your interested in working. Once you do that, used gmail mail merge to send out mass personalized emails...saved me a ton of time.
Also, utilize linked in to find long-lost alumni - just had 2 interviews after meeting people using their premium message service.
Disclosure: I go to a complete non-target as well, have a 3.7 GPA and in my 5th internship; it's been tough but it's definitely still doable.
How do you use Gmail Mail merge? And how do you use this with a cap iq list?
Gmail Mail merge tutorial that I used: http://www.labnol.org/software/mail-merge-with-gmail/13289/
I just manually searched each name on the Cap IQ list, found an info@ email address or a team member email address, compiled a list, and wrote a general email that worked for all of them when personalized.
However, I should tell you that my success has been as a result of a series of informal phone calls with these people, not getting into a formalized recruiting process.
