Aon Securities and ILS Structuring/Origination

I am interested in Aon’s investment banking subsidiary, Aon Securities, they are the main player in ILS which is basically reinsurance meets structured finance. Does anyone have any experience working with this group or one of their larger competitors (Swiss Re, GC Securities, Willis Re Securities, etc.) I’m curious about comp, bonus, exit opportunities, and general satisfaction with the work. From what I have been able to find comp seems pretty low, but I am curious if anyone has more current and first hand details.

Thanks. As far as I know it’s niche, but the overall size of the industry within reinsurance is fairly large. Any knowledge as to to the fees they charge? I saw some information that they have around $15 billion in cat bond and ILS issuance outstanding right now and the securities tend to mature after 3 years. I know their team is pretty small (less than 40 people as I understand it) so it surprises me in a way that bonus and salary would be so low when they are issuing roughly $5B in new securities a year

Yeah sorry should have clarified, rather niche work definitely large industry. Really not sure on the fees or exact comp, remember hearing it was a bit lower but I’m sure it still pays pretty well. Wish I had more info but it was awhile ago. Looked on Glassdoor I’m sure the pay is higher than whats listed that seemed quite low.

Great place to be. The industry is growing at an extremely rapid pace and innovative structures for securities are coming out every year. Hours are amazing and pay is slightly below/on par with traditional finance roles

Out of interest - what kind of comp levels have you seen? I am in the advanced interview stages for an ILS role at a specialist fund and am trying to figure out what a reasonable offer range might be. I am currently an actuary (fully qualified) so have relevant experience but this is quite different from the typical actuarial path and a bit of a speculative move so I have no idea what to expect! It's such a niche and there's barely any info online regarding solid numbers.
