Appropriate S&T Coffee Chat Attire for Meeting w/ Analyst?
I will be meeting this week with a female first year S&T analyst from a BB (GS/MS/JPM) for coffee. I was wondering what would be best to wear as a woman. I've seen varying advice on this for guys but was unsure if as a woman I might have more leeway (i.e.: a nice dress and pumps as opposed to a suit), especially since she and I are so close in age. Would it be weird/overly formal if I showed up in a suit or is that the way to go?
I think it's way better to play it safe and go with a suit. At the same time, I'm a guy, so take my advice with a grain of salt.
A similar question was asked by a guy on this site, and it turned out that he was getting a full interview at that "coffee chat", so he was pretty happy everyone told him to wear a suit. Better to look professional, I think, shows that you really have respect for the analyst.
Wear a suit/professional dress - worst case being you're overdressed in which then the women across the table gets the message that you mean business!
