Are signing bonuses typical in Equity Research?
I am interviewing with MM equity research shops (think Blair, RBC, Jefferies, etc.) for a Research Associate position and I am curious if there is typically a signing bonus involved for this type of position. If so, what is a typical/average signing bonus and when would it be paid? I have been working in equity research for 3 years, but with much smaller firms that were unable to offer me a signing bonus. Thanks for any help.
Generally low for an Associate, just enough to cover your move costs and maybe a bit more. Since you have experience you might negotiate a slightly higher one, but I would temper your expectations especially given the state of the industry.
Just signed on with a top sell-side shop, they offered a "relocation bonus" of $5k.
signing/relo bonus on lateral move to senior ER associate at BB? (Originally Posted: 03/04/2014)
I'm moving from buy-side to sell-side senior associate in ER in NYC and wondering what/if there is a signing bonus involved
sorry, had some trouble getting this up. will be more thorough.
I am currently an associate at one of the largest asset managers in the country, non-NYC based. have been very successful here and want to try my hand at something different (also would like to move to NYC). Was offered a job as a senior associate at a BB in ER. The guy i will work for said the comp range is 150-200k which i assume is a 100k base and a 50-100% performance based bonus. Wondering though if there is any signing/relocation bonus for these types of jobs or do they not usually do that in an attempt to keep people from just jumping around all the time?
There should be, did you try asking?
haha, i was so excited during the meeting i had that i forgot to ask
my (future) boss said he was going back to HR to iron out comp and a start date so i imagine I will found out soon, i'm just restless
I wouldn't worry about it. Usually the longer you're out of school/higher up the chain, the more they'll help out.
