Are the markets rigged?
So back in my junior year of college i came across flash boys and became obsessed for a little while about markets and their infrastructure. After rereading the book recently i was curious if anyone has ever had actual experience with not being able to get the shares you wanted because of the "front running". Are HFT's still doing what Katsuyama proposed in flash boys? I understand that some HFT's do serve a purpose and provide liquidity etc. Are some HFT's still gaming the system?
Hi PocketAces--, check out these threads:

no?! nothing from anyone?!
talked to the other co-founder (not katsuyama) in their office during a visit. he said that some exchanges/hft still try to game the system and they're even developing the tech to counter that (with some prof from columbia). sorry if it doesn't help a lot, don't really recall exactly what he talked about since it was a few months ago
