What are the reasons for getting an MSF or MBA instead of a Ph.D.?
Can anyone think of a reason other than opportunity cost?

Career Resources
because some people just get an mba so they can get promoted or change careers... absolutely no reason to get a phd if you're just looking for a promotion that can be attained by getting an mba... as for msf... changing careers I'm guessing, or make up for crappy undergrad stats for recruting.... sooooo many reasons to get a masters over a phd.
I never understand the "CFA vs MBA", "MSF vs MBA", "MBA vs PhD", etc. threads that pop up here. We can discuss majors, like accounting, computer science, or history, in great detail, but these graduate degrees (or certifications) are completely different. It is like asking "Should I get a JD or an MD?" An MBA accomplishes something completely different an a PhD does.
They serve different purposes. MSFs and MBAs are geared towards practicality, PhD vs MFE might be more apt
Why I would want an MFE over a PhD: get into quant finance without having to spend so much damn time going for a PhD (if I recall correctly, it seems like MFE graduates are as marketable as PhD graduates in the finance field (when the PhDs aren't in quant finance)
please correct me if I'm wrong
Are there any reasons why an MBA from a target school would be better than a Ph.D in Finance from a semi-target school? (Originally Posted: 03/25/2013)

That question just made me insane.
...better for what?
These are two entirely different tracks. What do you want to do?
KKR prop trading or something of that caliber.
