Are you allowed to trade stocks after you've been an SA?
I just finished my SA stint at a BB. I know BBs have compliance rules about opening up these type of accounts (Scottrade, TD Ameritrade, etc..)
I finished my internship, so am I allowed to open up one of these accounts? Is there a certain time period that I must wait until I am allowed to do so? I received an offer, so if I come back, I dont want any issues.
I could my senior year but just call HR to double check.
yes, you can do whatever you want. You are not employed. You are not a registered person with FINRA. Once you start full time though, you may have to liquidate certain positions or change brokerages depending on firm policy.
It's still illegal to trade based on any material non-public information that you have/remember from your internship, but in terms of just opening an account and trading stocks generally, you should be fine (I think).
