Will try this. I have a movie star-ish pic and attracted strangers to endorse skills I never had. Kinda annoying.

I don't have a picture. I have a very common name and enjoy not being a blackmail target.

How does this make any sense?

"This is blackmail! Pay us ransom money or else we will release a professional picture of you linked to a common and generic name. Do not call the police, or else the picture of you in a suit will be spread to the people that don't really give a shit, don't know you, and probably won't ever meet you again in life. And yeah we're telling you to pay up because we have a professional picture of you in a suit, and it's incredibly incriminating because its a picture of you in a suit. And we're blackmailing you because apparently you are worth blackmailing."

I don't know, maybe reverse blackmail? Like self-branding through unorthodox ways?

Yes but not in a cheesy way. Standard office photo with city skyline behind.

Depends if you have a face for radio.

Mar 3, 2013

I vote yes on the pic. It's hard to remember everyone's names, being able to quickly pull up your LinkedIn is an easy way for me to remember you.

No. Probably paranoid, but I don't want to look unprofessional.

I'd call it more of a smirk.

think of it as any other professional headshot. Do you want to be the bad ass, or the friendly guy. Assuming you are junior, you need to be the latter.

Well that doesn't seem very professional of you.

It's a photo from a wedding taken by a pro, so it looks pretty good.

It works for me because my resting face is kind of dickish. People who get to know me tell me they thought I looked like a pretentious cunt at first sight. But when I get drunk, I look very laid-back and approachable.

@Bic @Pinkclouds is something going on between you two? Lots of threads with weird exchanges. You guys dating?

Jan 27, 2014

Well that would be highly unfortunate...for me. bic wishes that were true though. But he's strictly bro-zone for me. Why are you so interested in my bro bic and I's relationship anyway? Wanna join our bro club? :)

Having learned that pinkclouds is female, her behavior makes more sense. I still strongly dislike her and the horse she rode in on.

Hard to smile while rescuing the damsel and her puppy by parachuting from an exploding C-130 full of terrorist , but I managed it some how. Doesn't seem like it has negatively impacted me yet.

Whether or not someone should smile at their picture?

Do share.

I'd recommend a sharp yet relaxed gaze, with your face slightly arched over your right shoulder. Just please keep those 32's covered.

Nov 11, 2017

I try and stay level looking.

My old finance professor boiled it down to: "Treat your LinkedIn like it's your first handshake with a headhunter, an md, or a client... and 70% of the time you would be right" ...so "when taking your business pic, envision that you're shaking someone's hand for the first time. Whatever facial expression you produce under the thought is the natural and right one to go on LinkedIn" ...

Personally I smile, but it's different for everyone. Whatever is most natural to you is the right thing to churn out. After all, they should accept your professional mug in its natural state if they are to tolerate/present it for 80+ hours for the next 3+ years

Funny you say that...

I was scheduled to have coffee with a ECM VP at a respectable boutique. His LinkedIn photo was from maybe late 20s at a push. He is now early 40s. While waiting, I had another glance at his LinkedIn just so I'd know him when he walks through those doors and showers me in advice. Boy was I wrong..

When he came out, he said "Hi X, I'm X, nice to meet you". I was so nervous (first time meeting a real banker) I couldn't even hear what he said. I looked at him blankly, responding "Hi, I'm here to meet X at 9:00 AM. Is he in yet?"

He stared at me for what felt like at least 10 seconds before replying "Yeah, he is literally right here..."

Senior bankers, please ensure your LinkedIn photo at least somewhat resembles you.

Because most senior bankers, me included, used to look healthy young and beautiful back in the days. Unfortunately most of us are not Dorian Gray and would rather think we look as good as we used to. I'll use my college prom picture if I fucking want to.
