Argument for "Incoming Investment Banking Summer Analyst"

Now, I've seen posts against putting this in your LinkedIn title, but hear me out. Some of my most helpful resources when I was recruiting, were kids in the grade above me who just went through the process over the last year. I found most of these kids through the "incoming" title on LinkedIn. As the process keeps accelerating (now happening before you're even 1/2 done with college), current students with offers, who have not yet completed internships, will be some of the best resources as to how the process works/what to expect, to younger kids.

With this process moving earlier, do we think that "incoming..." could start being less "hardo" and more beneficial to kids trying to recruit (especially from non-targets)?

first off- congrats!

second- I think you and me both know that you'd like to do this to showcase your new internship (which I couldn't really blame you for- it's an amazing feeling receiving it), so if you're going to do it, just do it

you don't need our validation or to make up a scenario where it helps

if you're proud of your accomplishment and want to show it to people, go for it

I definitely don't have any intention on doing it anytime soon (I think posting something like that 14 months before the position even starts is far too in advance).

I was legitimately trying to make an argument for anyone who posts this title, as it can actually be beneficial even if some don't see it that way. (But I'm not going to say I don't want to put it on my profile)

If you're doing it for the noble purpose of publicly informing underclassmen of your availability to help them, go right ahead and do so. But do bear in mind that it'll probably be viewed as rather stupid to most professionals who are already in the industry.

It's great that you want to help the younger guys, however what you should be thinking about is how this is perceived by your future colleagues - you have to be selfish. It really gives the impression that you're one of those obsessive guys at uni that only talked about finance and IB. I see much less of this in S&T luckily, but I want to know you're a guy I can sit next to all day and go for a drink with after work.

Here's a compromise: how about putting something like this in your summary (not title) instead? "Undergraduate student in X at Y. Excited to be interning in TMT M&A at a global bank next summer." (maybe avoid wordings like: "BB bank", "leading bank", "top-ranked bank" ....)
