As a Junior, I only have 1 semester left to boost my GPA in time for recruiting.. correct?
Given that firms usually recruit undergrads in the Fall semester of their senior years, the GPA they're looking at is, really, cumulative only up to the end of your Junior year.. So as a Junior right now, I only have one semester left (spring semester) to really boost my GPA, correct?
Are there any consulting firms that still recruit seniors who have just graduated, or begin recruiting seniors upon graduation? Or are you pretty much screwed if you don't land a consulting gig by winter break of your senior year? Do all consulting firms follow the same recruitment schedule for undergrads?
How about summer internships for seniors: are they totally out of the question? Which companies take seniors for summer positions?
The reason I ask is because I feel like my GPA is the heaviest weight that's holding me down and I really want to boost my GPA, and yes, I realize it's a lot too late for that now as a Junior, but still..
Thanks.
You're pretty much right that this is your last semester to really boost your GPA. The big firms pretty much recruit in the fall/some might have interviews in January, but regardless, you need to post your resume in the fall.
Summer internships for seniors exist if you stay an extra semester/year, but then you'd be a 5th year. In that case, you still qualify for the summer internship position, but be sure to explain why you stayed an extra year (i.e. saying because I wanted an internship/job is not the right answer- you'll need some better reason like I wanted to add an extra major/minor, etc...).
Good luck!!
Out of curiosity, how bad is a 3.4C, 3.9M GPA for FT recruiting from a non-target?
MBB is out of reach esp from a non-target. Typically a class of new consultants at MBB will have an average GPA in the 3.75-3.85 range.
My MBB BA/AC class had a 3.8+ average GPA. Nobody was from a non-target.
