Asking an alum for an internship
Hey WSO community,
I was recently networking with some alum (non-target) and got connected with a guy who founded his own HF. Granted, this HF is tiny but being from a non-target with roughly a 3.4 GPA has limited my opportunities for the upcoming summer.
I'll be meeting up with him at his office next week and figured it wouldn't hurt to try and see if he has any internship opportunities with his firm. How would you guys suggest going about asking for one? I don't really want to come across as demanding. Any thoughts??
Any and all advice is appreciated in advance!
Sounds like a good connection. Maybe start by explaining to him your interests and learn a lot about his firm. Then if you like what you hear relay that you really like the firm and the business and was wondering if you could come intern for free or if he recommends any other firms/ways to get experience.
Great idea - thank you
This is a really good approach, it should respond well to your interest
