Asking for signing bonus?

Hi all,

I recently received an offer for an analyst position at a boutique IB firm (non-NYC) and am very grateful for the opportunity. It is currently my only offer, and I really liked everyone I met at the firm. The firm has solid deal flow, and I think it would be a great experience to work there.

That said, salary is on the lower end, and there is no signing bonus listed. I am thinking about asking for a signing bonus considering I know this is industry norm, and I have expenses to cover for moving. Is this a bad idea considering it is my only offer? If not, how should I go about asking for this? My biggest fear is getting the offer rescinded- is this a possibility if I ask? Any input would be appreciated.

I was on the same boat last month - if not explicitly stated in the offer letter, you could ask HR whether the firm provides any financial support in terms of relocation? If its a small firm they could be more open and flexible. I don't see how asking about offer terms respectfully can lead to the offer being rescinded unless you tried to negotiate with them already which can reflect poorly on your end. Again, you don't want your working relationship with the firm and the team starting off on the wrong foot.
