For my peeps who were/are involved in asset management and/or acquisitions, what would you say the differences are in terms of work-life balance, pay, and promote structure. I'm familiar with the differences in the day-to-day aspect of each but am curious to know more outside of the job itself.

Acquisitions definitely has a higher earning capacity but AM has more job security.
Promote depends on the shop you are with but the acquisitions guys are able to do more volume than a AM guy. You can only manage so many assets, but as long as the money doesn’t run out you can acquire to the moon and back.
Work life balance, like promote structures, depend on the shop. By nature acquisitions is fast paced, you either move quickly or get beat out by those with faster decision making times. AM can get frantic too at times, but it’s generally all on a cyclical schedule which you can plan around and for.
Either can have similar work life balances though depending on the structure/culture of the shop.
