Associate in Buffalo?

Does anyone have any opinion about Research Associate position in a bulge bracket bank's sell side research group in Buffalo. I really like the analyst but Buffalo seemed not like an ideal position for equity research. Any thoughts from someone who has worked there?

Thanks Anthony, but would being away from NYC be a major drawback? Are you isolated from networking etc etc since you are not in NYC? Thanks for your input

Well obviously you are not in the epicenter of finance, but no one says you can't transfer or go somewhere else. You will always run into this issue when you are outside of NYC and working at a satellite office. If you have a great position in NYC then take it, but if this is your only opportunity then it isnt that bad.

there was another forum on citi er in buffalo recently, but looks like it was deleted. the gist of it was that buffalo gets a lot of crap, some of which isnt deserved (certainly some of it is deserved tho.. snowiest places ive ever been). arguably some of the best food in the country, especially given the city's size (ok, nyc probably has a lot better options, but its also huge.. and nyc cant compete with the wings in buffalo), and the city's vicinity to niagra falls is nice. cost of living is also pretty low, so your money can go a long way.

Yes valid point! Money does go a long way in Buffalo. I am more concerned from a networker's perspective. I plan to stay in the sell side role for 2-4 years and then jump ship to buy side (HF/PE). In NYC, you get to follow your analyst to meetings and in general "be right there"! In buffalo, I get a feel that I will be in the middle of nowhere! .... Please enlighten me if I am thinking this the way I should....

Yeah, you are going to be in the middle of nowhere. That is what sucks about Buffalo. Maybe get some experience and then move to NYC in another role and then jump ship. Sometimes you have to take what you got and worry about the next step when that time comes.

Anchor Bar and Duffs in Buffalo FTW..IMHO BEST wings ever. Downtown Buffalo is decent (do NOT compare with NYC) and the cheap cost of living is always good. In Buffalo, HSBC is probably the only place I would have considered working at.
