at a middle market fund - advice for recruiting
Hi All, I work for a middle-market private equity fund with a niche strategy in a smaller city. I previously spent a couple years in investment banking in New York. I am trying to move to another fund. Just curious if anyone was in a similar position and can offer insights/ advice.
It seems that employers are worried about the following: a) the fact that I am in a smaller city - my current job is "slow" and not rigorous, b) our strategy is too niche and not transferable and c) I am a millennial job-hopper. Most job descriptions seek either 2-3 years of investment banking or a Senior Associate role with several years of private equity experience. I am in between these with less than one year in private equity.
Many thanks in advance.

never heard from anyone, would appreciate your insights.
Call the usual recruiters. Tell them you are looking for something more intense. Highlight the deals you've worked on and your banking experience (hopefully it is high quality) and you should have interviews at other MM funds in a week or two. If that isn't your experience there are deeper challenges with you experience than what is highlighted above.
You’re going to have to search at funds that don’t use recruiters and post directly. Given you’re in a smaller city and not ny/chi/sf they are going to put local candidates ahead of you that have less holes in their resume.
