Attire for informal meetings?
Was wondering what you guys would suggest wearing for an informal networking meeting.
I'm heading to a city Friday night to negotiate details on an offer with a boutique AM firm, and the guy I'm meeting with told me just to wear jeans and a t-shirt (will wear polo).
I took the chance to email a couple of guys I've had informational interviews with over the fall that went extremely well and tell them that I'll be in town for the weekend and asked if they'd be interested in meeting for coffee or me coming into the office.
What would you suggest wearing to a meeting with the other guys? It would be my first time meeting them in person.
No sneakers. Wear dress shoes. Make sure the jeans aren't frayed at the end. If they are, get that fixed or don't wear jeans and wear khaki's. Collared polo is recommended. Maybe a suit jacket. Jeans are okay if he said jeans are okay.
you cant wear a collared polo with a suit jacket, thats silly. its gotta be a button down ... and not a suit jacket, a blazer ..... jeans or khakis
How to dress for informal chat? (Originally Posted: 02/07/2012)
Hi,
I have a lunch meeting scheduled later this week for a BB PWM internship with a previous intern at the firm. He's a current student at my university, and I got in touch with him through a referral from a mutual contact we have. I've noticed that our email exchanges have progressively getting a little more casual, and he wants to meet up to eat at the local, flagship joint around campus. The campus culture is pretty casual, but dressing up was still something I had in mind though I'm not sure how formal I should be. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.
If you...need to consult an online forum..to ask how to dress..... in a muthafuckin meeting with someone one year older than you...then just give up now because life gets a lot harder that this.
LOL... but I agree. You're an adult now (so I assume), and you should know how it's like to talk to someone who's older than you by a year.
tuxedo obv
dont really see any other options here
I was trying to confirm what an appropriate dress code for an informal chat was, not how to talk to someone two years older than me. And seeing as how he'll have some influence on me getting the internship, it's not dumb to try to make a good impression regardless of how old he is.
By "knowing how it's like to talk to someone who's older than you by a year", I meant the whole package of presenting yourself, including how to dress for the occasion.
What's the context? Is it lunch on a weekend? Or during a weekday in between classes? If it's a weekend lunch, I'd say dress up slightly more. But if it's only a weekday lunch, I'd say wear something nice that you would feel comfortable wearing to class... for me that'd be a short-sleeve polo with jeans.
Wear what you would usually wear.. you're both college students.
Thanks for the responses...I just realized how dumb my question sounded lol.
You better wear a fuckin tank top
I just have to ask the question how? How did you get enough courage to talk to him in the first place if you don't even know what you're going to wear when you meet with him?
Wear what he's wearing. If he's still a college student, dress like a college student.
Casual, obviously.
If you're meeting someone currently working in the industy make sure it's at least business casual.
not sure if troll..
Suit no tie
Wear a penis suit of course. But remember to cut off the balls, since you obviously have none.
^ I literally laughed out loud in the middle of my econometrics lecture after reading that.
What to wear to a cafe meeting with former CFO? (Originally Posted: 09/09/2015)
Greetings,
Tomorrow I am meeting with an ex-CFO of a highly regarded wealth management company in Australia for -advice- in career progression.
This is an excellent opportunity to set a good impression. However, I am a little stumped on what to wear.
What do I wear to a "cafe meeting" to discuss advice in career progression?
Thank you to all in advance for your help,
Gus.
Just go with a plain button-up shirt and pants. Wearing a jacket seems over the top, wearing a t-shirt is stupid for obvious reasons.
Great! Thank you for the comment. I suppose it was a matter of whether the jacket was over the top, and I agree.
Now that I have the attire sorted, time to focus on questions to ask ;).
Thanks again!
I'd also add that if it's a weekend meeting (sounds like it may be on yours and his/her free time), just dress casual. If it's a week day, the worst that happens is you overdressed and you can make up some story about how you just left your other job or got back from an interview.
I would have worn a suit and tie. Being overdressed will never leave a bad impression.
Suit and tie is a bit awkward for an informal meal at a café... I think that being overdressed could leave a bad impression in a situation like this.
