Absolutely (as long as you are not tied down to the city). This is a tremendous opportunity for you and really one that can propel your career forward at the expense of a few years in Cleveland (pretty good sports town the last few years ;P).

In terms of cost/benefit, the more lax lifestyle is offset by 2 years of PE experience, which should allow you to go to a top tier B-school or lateral back to the city and do PE/growth equity if that's what you want to do later. You may also find that you end up liking Cleveland and end up starting a family down the line :). (FWIW, the COL is much lower than in NYC so you should also be able to save a bit while there).

First off OP, congratulations on making the shift!

Working in consulting and then transitioning to PE shows that you are willing to work hard. The city may not be the most exciting, but it's the opportunity to learn the industry, network, and leave in a few years for greener pastures. It's an exciting opportunity to put in the time to set your trajectory for the next 5+ years.

To echo posters above, scrub geographic details from your post.

Edit: On re-reading the post, I'd delete this thread since the city in question has come up in several replies.

Oh no dude, looks like your info is now all over the internet! Some email is making the rounds about a PE guy who has a sweet gig lined up in Cleveland. You should destroy your blackberry, claim identity theft an go dark for a few weeks. Good exit ops from living off the land for a few years- you might be able to go to a T7 fallout shelter
