Awkward situation with Boss

I work in a BB ops department on a team with about 24 people.

I went to the baseball game for which I got company tickets. During the 9th inning I sat next to my VP (guy that is head of the 24 people). I texted another employee to ask what bar she was at and inferred that I might be going as well by inviting him and two of the guys he was with. So he tells me that he notices that I fall asleep in meetings. I know that he caught me falling asleep when I was getting some one on one training the other day from another team member, but the thing is I never fall asleep in meetings. He told me a specific meeting that I was falling asleep in where two of the MO guys were giving us a presentation on relationship management. I know for a fact that I was wide awake at that meeting because I remember being very nervous about asking a question at the end and never ending up asking it.

The VP just got to be head of our group less than a month ago so he does not know me really well, (even though I believe and based on my reviews and colleague feedback, I am a great employee).

Anyway the VP probably thinks I am some crazy partier even though I never went out to meet up at the bar with the other girl (I am at home typing this right now instead) and I hardly ever go out anyway, I am taking a very intense GMAT class, and play some very competitive hockey in 2 leagues which takes up a lot of my time. In fact I would say that I probably go out drinking once every four weekends.

What is your opinion about what I should do with this, and how do I make my VP know that I am not someone who parties and then falls asleep in meetings afterwards, because that is not me at all. I really like my VP and so far have had a good relationship with him, but him saying that to me made me feel really awkward. HELP!!!

Stand out at work over the next few weeks. Not that hard to do if you understand what you need to do to get noticed. And, if you have a good relationship I wouldn't worry too much. Small things happen, it's how you react to them that is more important.

Just ask to have a word in private with him, and just sincerely tell him what you told us here.

If he's a reasonable guy he'll understand and be aware that you are an excellent and dilligent employee.
