Owned in part by Mass Life, and they seem to have some of the characteristics you might see in other insurance asset managers (like AXA or AIG Asset Management for example)-wide range of asset classes with a slant towards fixed income and a good amount of focus on lower return, lower risk strategies. They have equity management and alternatives (event driven, Mezz/PE, etc) as well, per their website.

I see them a lot in fixed income and CDOs, where they are a pretty well regarded manager. Just going off of their website it looks like most of their alternatives are in managed accounts, which seems like it might be a pain in the ass for some strategies. Don't really know anything about working for them. Definitely an asset manager with some alternative strategies (ala TCW) rather than a hedge fund or PE firm per se.

Edit: Just saw that this is posted in the PE forum. Not that familiar with them in the PE space and while their website says they've done a lot of MM transactions, I think they're better known as a general AM shop rather than PE or HF focused.

There have been many great comebacks throughout history. Jesus was dead but then came back as an all-powerful God-Zombie.

I interviewed with them a year ago. I believe they hire one research associate per year. You're in a 3-year program and they expect you to obtain the CFA within that time.

The workload is all about credit analysis. You're given a small industry to start with, e.g. supermarkets. You analyze statement of cashflows, etc. Not too overwhelming, but I don't know how the market turmoil has affected them, especially since their only focus is fixed income.

The pay was around 70-75 all in, but who knows what it is now.

Personally, I would never work there simply because of the location - Springfield, MA - the most ghetto "city" in New England. However, I will say that the surrounding suburbs are very nice, has cheap cost of living, and it's a good place to raise a family down the line.
