Background Check/Employment Verification HELP PLEASE :)
Hey guys,
As I am going through an employment verification process, I am starting to worry that one of my overseas internship might not be able to be verified.
Two years ago, I did an internship directly under the chairman for a listed company in Hong Kong. I was paid but I wasnt officially on the payroll system, and I am sure language barrier would make things even more complicated when they try to call and verify. To make things worse, the whole board of director was flushed out by another group of investors so the chairman is no longer affiliated with the company.
However, before I left, I did obtain a reference letter signed by the Chairman on company letterhead "certified true copys" by the company attorney. I also have the contact information of the former Chairman whom I worked uner.
My question is: If the background check company cant verify that job, would they contact me? If so, do you think providing the said reference letter on company letterhead + the former Chairman's contact info would be good enough?

Don't worry. I just called HR to explain one of my situations and she just told me to update my online app to reflect this information.
how do you update online app to reflect that?
you are screwed
I would also like to know whether a reference letter / letter of employment would be sufficient for the background check company. Can someone please chime in?Thanks
do these banks really check all your work experiences that you have listed on your resume?
can someone please help with the original question? I would really really appreciate it
bump, also curious. I have overseas experience as well that banks would not be able to verify

wouldn't HR have to contact you first? by then you will be able to explain yourself...
You have nothing to worry about. If they have any issues, they will certainly allow you to explain, and yes your letter and contact info of the guy you were under are sufficient.
Background Check - Employer Wont Verify me (Originally Posted: 10/23/2017)
Hi All,
One of my past employers is refusing to comply with a background check. When I try calling them to see why, all my calls are ignored /i get hung up on.
My courses of action are: -Keep calling different people of the company to see if one of them are happy to verify (seems like harassment) -Contact my prospective future employer to say that they are not willing to provide the details, and attach a slip to confirm my dates of employment.
Was wondering, which is the better option? Also given that this check is for one of the strict investment banks, how likely is my offer to be rescinded?
Any thoughts on this would be greatly appreciated
