Bain global offices - best and worst?
Hi all! I have an offer from Bain, but due to Visa issues cannot stay in the office I was recruited to and need to choose one where work permits are easy to get. I will spend a year there, until I can join my original office. Sooo, I would be very grateful, if you could share any insights on business, learning curve and culture in different offices! Especially if you are based in Europe or Canada. Thanks!
Why don't you instead look into where you'd want to live both from a personal and a work/life balance point. You can also look into what type of cases the particular offices are heavy on. Most offices should be comparable in quality, although the competitive ones (e.g. London/NYC) might be stronger as for any company.
Drop me a PM if you want more info.
Asked a friend, here's what I got (without factoring in specific personal preferences):

Bain ACI: Negotiating on Office Location (Originally Posted: 02/06/2013)
Hi all,
I was lucky enough to receive an offer to intern at Bain this summer, and I'm incredibly excited about it. I suppose the only downside is that it's not in the best office location, largely due to the fact that my school is a semi-target and thus gets recruiting only from 2 offices.
I currently have first-rounds scheduled with BCG, in a more desirable location. Even though Bain > BCG for me personally, would it be worth my time trying to get an offer from BCG and then push Bain to match the location? When calling with the offer, the individual from Bain asked me who else I was interviewing with and what they could do to convince me to come, which suggests there might be some flexibility. At the same time, I'm wondering if it's not worth the opportunity cost to keep thinking about case interviews, missing several days of school, etc. Thoughts? Am I better off just accepting the offer in the less desirable city and then try to negotiate if they give me a FT offer? If I try this BCG tactic, how likely am I to succeed and is there any possibility of illwill for trying?
Thanks!
I think you might be overestimating the worth of a summer analyst. They could very easily replace you, I doubt they will match the location. The person at Bain just might be being nice.
Agree with post above!
Take whatever firm you prefer, you will not spend enough time in your "home office" to actually consider it home. For the FT offer, it usually will take about 1 year for you to have a real option of moving, of course depending on if you are a strong performer

It's not going to work (99%). There's a reason why they tell you time and again that final rounds are office-specific. As redninja said, you are going to piss off Bain and BCG.
And I don't think switching offices between ACI and AC is going to be nearly impossible even if you're a star performer, unless there are extenuating circumstances. Your'e going to have to wait one year as a FT. Maybe it's office-specific, but the midwest office that comes to our school said flat out no to a friend of mine who was an ACI.
Yea, tread that scenario very softly. If you kick ass in the office you're in, after you get the FT offer you can try and use that to switch offices. One of the summers I interned with did just that.
I know a ton of McK and BCGers who have done the switch from summer to full time after doing a good job. I don't know how Bain feels about it, but the other two are really flexible.
Interesting. It could also depend on office that s/he interned in, and I'm not sure how well s/he did...
Just take the offer you've got in hand....now's not the time to be fussy and try to play these guys off against each other.
Besides, if you're good you'll be fully staffed and you'll spend 1 day a week in the "less desirable" city.
